There are more than half a million veterans across the state of South Carolina—and thousands of those veterans, along with military spouses, are currently unemployed—
or, in many cases, underemployed or undereducated—and they leave service with enormous amounts of skills and
specialized knowledge that is often lost in the translation to civilian life.
The transition to civilian or corporate employment has its own challenges, as well—challenges that must be addressed in order to ensure our veteran and
military populations can find their fit within our workforce. From identifying potential gaps in the hiring process
to translating skills, the Veteran Employment Summit was designed by two entities familiar with the subject—the
South Carolina chapter of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and The RECON Network.
one-day conference will focus on both sides of the issue—the hiring side (for HR and staffing professionals) and the
employment side (for veterans and military spouses).

What is the goal of the VET Summit?
The goal of the VET Summit is pretty straightforward—to improve and positively impact companies across the state of South Carolina by addressing both sides of the Veteran Workforce Gap. At the summit, HR Professionals will learn more about the issues surrounding veteran employemnet, as well as how to better recruit and retain veterans for their companies. Also, in addition to hearing experts from across the state in employment and best practices in job search, veterans and military spouses will gain resources and access to companies and recruiters from across the state of South Carolina.
Who is the VET Summit for?
The VET Summit is for anyone who qualifies as one of the following: veterans, military spouses, HR professionals, staffing agencies, or recruiters.
Who is behind this event?
The VET Summit was born out of a partnership between two expert entities in employment and veteran employment: the South Carolina chapter of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and The RECON Network, a SC-based company focused on purpose-focused veteran transition and employment.
